That Cornwall post

Here we are, way into October - dare I say almost November and I realise that I haven't written up a post about one of the memorable holidays I have ever had! It was a glorious holiday and worth the 9-10 hours of slow, traffic jammed driving that we did. I have a load of pictures to upload and wanted to get them up as a reminder of Summer 2014 so I hope you will excuse me as this post will be picture heavy.

The looong drive down.

On arrival, this was our lovely view.
Port Mellon. It is just a wee bit further down the coast from Mevagissey.

Watching the sunrise on the first morning.

I penned a few words...

Cornish Morning

Sound of gulls cawing.
Waves lapping.
Rhythmical.
In out slower pace.
Rushes in then pulls back.
Constant. Relaxing. Peaceful.
Sun glistening, slick,
like oil on canvas blurred by the waves of the sea.
Broken up and dancing on the water
like a million stars in fast forward.
Reflection widens then narrows.
Seabirds skimming the horizontal water.
Cliffs and rugged rocks tumbling down,
broken, falling into the sea.
Coves, caves, secret smugglers' dens.
Warmth of the sun bathing me.
 Cleansing me.
Energising me.

The sea in Port Mellon is full of seaweed. The kids had a lot of fun. I stayed clear away!

Sea glass!! Yay. I was hoping I would find some and I did. Only very small pieces mind you but treasure indeed.

Stone Henge?

Day trip to Fowey.

Some gorgeous shops.

Polperro was absolutely stunning!!! You had to park at the top of the town and walk down into the village. Really loved this place. I think it was my favourite place we visited.

Boats in Polperro.

Stunning views and gorgeous weather.

Caves in Polperro.

Fishing equipment in Polperro.

Look at the colour of the water!!!

Funky shell covered cottage.

Crantock Beach. We stayed here for a few hours and got very badly sunburnt. Even with cream on! I swam in the sea here which was a huge accomplishment for me as I have a fear of the sea but made myself do it. Scary but exhilarating experience.

Crabbing on Crantock Beach

Off to Lands End. We happened to choose a night in which they let off a huge firework display with a story at nightfall. We stayed to watch the sun go down. One of my most memorable experiences of Cornwall. How many people have watched the sun go down at Lands End??

St Michael's Mount for a day trip.

Some amazingly large jelly fish were washed up on the shore here. Quite scary. It put me off going back in the sea again.

The Giant's heart which is told about in a story they tell you when you arrive. It's told in the oral tradition where they gather all the people on the lawn and narrate a story about a giant who once lived there. This is supposed to be his heart which you had to try and find as you walked up the steep steps to the Mount.

So very sorry that you had to endure my holiday snaps but I really did need to get them blogged. It was a great trip and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone if you can tolerate the long journey.

See you soon for a crafty update. Lots to show and tell.

Cornwall is a beautiful part of the UK, I've only been once. I can still remember walking in Polperro and everyone in the street stopping to watch the most enormous dragonfly - it's was stunning. Lovely mix of photos, thanks for sharing.

Me! Me! I've seen the sunset at Lands End. I've also been there when it's so foggy you can't see the end of your own nose ;)
