A RAK and Granny Square blanket no. 2 finished!!!

Hello folks in lovely blogland. I hope you are all enjoying your summer. It has been going okay here. I have my two lovelies to keep me company. DD has been to a few different activities including crafting at the local craft centre where she has done all sorts of wonderful crafts. But more about that later.

Firstly, after my last post, I received this gorgeous RAK in the post from Robin

RAK gift from Robin Aug 10

Isn't it great?? I love the chart and fabric and that pink lace - oh I love it. Thanks Robin so much. This was a neat thing to get in the post.

Speaking of giveaways, my followers list has grown to over 200!! I have been doing a few things for the giveaway but I haven't got it all together yet. I can tell you though that it will have a mixture of "Hazel Handmade" and some bought goodies too. So stay tuned.

Next up, I am very proud to present my latest finish. This is my second crochet blanket and I call it my Baby Steps blanket. If you remember my first blanket and how I completely ad-hocked it, this latest blanket was me learning about square sizes and colour organisation. It is also for my ds who, although no longer a baby, is still my baby.

Baby blanket finally finished!

I even learned how to do this lovely shell edging around it thanks to attic24.

As I have got more and more into the crochet and yarns etc I started to really dislike the colours I chose for this blanket. Originally I was so excited about them esp after the Ugly episode. However, now that it is made up, I am really pleased with how it turned out. Not bad for cheap Hayfield Bonus wool! My son loves it too and he is snuggled up asleep in it even as I type ;).

My dd says she wants a ripple blanket now!

Speaking of DD, she has been to a few things this summer. Here is some of what she has been up to:

IMG_0447

Jewellery making, wheelwork, tile making, mask making, Hama beading!!!!! She has also done some artwork and the usual colouring in etc...

Right, I'm off to catch up on some blogs whilst also thinking of more crochet blankets! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

That blanket is just lovely. One of these days I'll get around to learning to crochet properly. But there's just so much knitting and sewing to do and not enough time to do it all in - sigh!

Your blanket is flippin' fantastic!! Well done! And a lovely RAK and all your DD's goodies too! You're surrounded by goodness, lucky girl!!!!!

You should try the ripple, you'll be pleased at how fast they work up. Not as quickly as granny striping I've found, but close :)

Love your finished blanket Hazel, so lovely and colourful and very inviting ~ perfect for snuggling!
Well done to your DD, it's lovely when they bring home craft items, I have a box full which mine all cringe at now when I get them out to reminisce but they mean the world to me and I can remember every occasion when they were created xxx

What a lovely blanket, Hazel--it is so bright and cheerful. I have no idea how to crochet, but your border looks amazing...

Tell your daughter that her crafts are wonderful--being creative obviously runs in the family :)

The blanket is gorgeous! The colors came together beautifully. My first completed project was a big granny square afghan for my mom out of Red Heart yarn. She gave it back to me to keep a few years ago. That yarn, though cheap, it totally indestructible!

What a nice package you received from Robin. Enjoy all the goodies inside.
You finished a very beautiful blanket and I love the colours you used. No wonder that your son loves to snuggle up in it. The more granny square blankets I see the more I feel tempted to start one myself. You can do so much with the colours you use.
Your DD is a very creative girl. Must be the genes, lol.

You did a wonderful job on your Baby Steps blanket. Doing squares and putting them together like that is a great learning experience. Now ripple is next - way to go~~

I love, love, love that blanket! I must learn to crochet!!
Your daughter has made some lovely crafty things too!

Thank you for visiting my blog BTW, and in answer to your question about Philippa Gregory v Alison Weir books, i've only read a couple of Alison Weir so far but i'm really torn between the two authors, my book shelf is getting full up with both of them, lol The 'Lady in The Tower' is factual and AW does a very good job of presenting the facts about how she came to be accused, it's quite indepth.
Have you read any of Margaret Campbell Barnes? She is new to me, bought 2 of her books a while ago but not got around to reading them yet.

sorry, didn't mean to go on so much, lol.

Have a good weekend :-)

Oh Hazel! I love your latest granny square afghan! I am working away on a washcloth which is nothing compared to this...lol. I need to just get it done but keep stopping to get my SAL work done. I can understand that your DS is pleased and this will keep him nice and warm in the coming autumn and winter.

Your package is wonderful.

It looks like your daughter is a chip off the old block and following your footsteps to becoming very craft minded. That is great as it will give her many happy hours and mean she is never bored in life.

Hope you did not have too much rain over the weekend?

Hugs from Holland ~
Heidi
